The house wakes up slowly after the cold season, with more or less important needs in small repairs and various preventive arrangements. From the roof to the ground, from the insulation to the heating system, there are many points to review during this health check, or face inconvenience once the summer comes.
Spring is the best season to check the insulation of the house, starting with the attic. Properly carried out, this operation will maintain an ideal average temperature in the dwelling all year round. For empty roofs, opt for the wool to blow or the insulation to unroll. Also remember to insulate the frames and choose efficient windows to avoid heat losses.
How to know if the insulation of your house is deficient? Test when the heater is on. If you feel cold, have interior walls that are cool or have signs of humidity, you may need to consider renovations. Do not forget to inspect at the same time your floors, doors and windows, sources of air infiltration.
The walls can also be thermally insulated from the outside to increase the comfort of the home. Although these works represent a higher cost, they are ultimately very economical and significantly improve energy performance.
Weathered, the roof and gutters must be meticulously controlled twice a year. A spring cleaning will not be luxury and will allow you to detect any damage, such as cracked tiles. Remove the mosses and leaves, and unobstructed your descents: Clogged with debris, they no longer drain the rainwater, which winds along the walls at the risk of damaging them.
Finally, make a visual examination of the facade, the floors of the terrace and the balcony (cracks, infiltrations ...), as well as the shutters and the pipes which could have suffered from the winter temperatures.
Every year, it is necessary to maintain the heating and ventilation systems. It is not a matter of simply cleaning the radiators, but of carrying out a complete check-up of the installations. Thoroughly clean the vents, unclog the filters, vent your radiators and check the condition and age of all your appliances. If you have a chimney, consider making an appointment for a sweeping once a year minimum, before and after the heating season.
The last recommendation concerns your boiler. There is a maintenance obligation which includes an annual inspection, as well as a revision certificate to be renewed every four years. Do not miss out, because the risks of accidental poisoning with carbon monoxide are very real.
