The family estate, whose history began in the 19th century, is nestled at the foot of the region’s most renowned vineyards. In the northern Moselle area, clay-limestone soils dominate, and the gently rolling vineyards are mostly west/southwest-facing.
Since 2002, Claude Pundel has been in charge of managing the Pundel-Hoffeld estate. In 2008, he also took over the vineyards of Caves Pundel-Err, which had previously been managed by his uncle.
The wine range is diverse: Elbling, Rivaner, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Muscat Ottonel, Gewürztraminer, Gris de Gris, Pinot Noir, and Saint Laurent are all available. In addition, there are exceptional wines aged in oak barrels. The “Vins de Prestige” series guarantees quality for the consumer.
Key aspects for the passionate winemaker include integrated viticulture, meticulous care of the vines, controlled yields, precise determination of harvest dates according to tannin maturity, rigorous hand selection of grapes, and optimal wine maturation before bottling. All these elements allow Claude Pundel to offer pleasant and harmonious wines with good aging potential.
The “Charta Luxembourg” wines are premium natural wines that comply with the Charter of Independent Winemakers: strict geographical and climatic criteria, no chemical fumigation, grassed vineyard plots, perfectly healthy grapes, and a maximum yield of 60 hl/ha.
Currently, there is a choice of 8 different Crémants: Cuvée Brut (Pinot Blanc, Riesling, and Auxerrois), Cuvée Riesling, Cuvée Fleuron (Riesling and Auxerrois), Cuvée Prestige (Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Auxerrois, and Chardonnay), 50th Anniversary Cuvée, Cuvée Louis (Muscat Ottonel, Gewürztraminer, and Riesling), Pinot Noir Rosé Cuvée, and Barrel 003 (Pinot Noir and Auxerrois aged in barrels).
The estate’s vineyards are located in Machtum (Hohfels, Widdem, Alwéngert, Gëllebour, and Ongkâf), Wormeldange (Weinbour and Elterberg), Ahn (Palmberg), and Grevenmacher (Leitschberg). Pundel-Err wines come from highly renowned vineyards in Wormeldange, such as Koeppchen, Weinbour, Elterberg, and Heiligenhäuschen.
