          Tips for insulating your home

With the cold days coming back, it's better to have a well-insulated house to spend the winter peacefully. But do you know where potential heat loss can come from? Editus.lu tells you everything!

          The roof

To improve the insulation of your roof, an option is available to you: install on the ceiling a glass wool or synthetic fiber lining . On the other hand, if the attic is not inhabited, you can install it directly on the ground.

Another hypothesis: if you do not have an under-roof and, therefore, no insulation, you can put one on the outside, lifting the tiles.

          The walls

After the roof, the walls usually represent the second source of energy loss . For better insulation , two options are available to you. The first consists of placing an insulating layer between the outer wall and the inner wall of your home.

The second, it consists of the application of a layer of insulating paint, which will play the role of thermal insulation. This paint can be used both indoors and outdoors, as well as on all types of surfaces.

          The Windows

Unstoppable technique for detecting badly isolated places: hold a candle lit and see if the flame moves. This is a sign that the cold air is passing. To remedy this, seal the gaps with foam joints or insulation; or apply a film of insulation film to your tiles .

Also consider having double glazing if you do not have one.

          The doors

If the cold is blowing from below your doors, invest in door sills. Simple to install, and inexpensive, they will prevent the air from infiltrating.

          Some additional tips

To eliminate any heat loss in your home, track leaks that increase your energy consumption . For example, install carpet to insulate your floors; place airtight wall boxes on your switches and outlets; or install an aluminum plate behind your radiators, so that the heat is directed towards the room and not towards the walls.

To track down any flaws in your insulation, call an insulation professional . The latter will establish a thermal balance of your home, as well as a blower door test.
