Garden in December: advice and work to be done
The cold weather does not encourage going out into the garden to maintain it . However, in order to prepare it for next spring, some small work is still to be done. Embrace yourself and take your courage with both hands: We tell you everything to take care of your green space in December.
It is cold, frosts are frequent ... Planting projects must be postponed in early spring . It is therefore too late to plant your bulbs and shrubs, you will have to wait until March.
Protect the feet of your roses , even if they are known to be resistant to cold. Nevertheless, to avoid any unpleasant surprises, cover their feet with a mound of earth from a height of 15 to 20 centimeters. Also remove dead branches and remaining leaves. The size of the roses will be at the end of the winter.
If you have camellias in your green space, it is wise to protect them, especially if it is snowing. The latter has indeed tend to burn their buttons.
December is also conducive to pruning trees and conifers .
It is time to protect all the crops that remain in the ground during the winter season (leeks, endive, etc.). To do this, cover them with straw beds.
Regarding crops that you protect with a winter veil , ventilate them from time to time. This avoids the humidity to settle there, and the development of rots.
Take care of your apples, pears, cherries, etc., by spraying a winter treatment product .
With regard to the last fruits that remain in the trees, just like those present on the ground, burn them: they can be vectors of parasites and cryptogamic diseases.
Enjoy December, when there is less to do in the garden, to tidy up your barbecue area and playgrounds children . Review their condition and protect what you can.
Also consider protecting the outside faucets and hoses so they do not freeze.

Finally, collect the last fallen leaves , as well as the last fruits that remain in the trees.

Also be sure to regularly clean the leaves of your green plants with a sponge slightly moistened with warm water.
