Coronavirus: make your own hydroalcoholic gel at home according to WHO recommendations
While many cases of Coronavirus have been detected and the Luxembourg government has taken exceptional measures in response to the situation, we remind you that it is important to respect the rules of hygiene for the health of all.
Hand washing is thus a simple and effective act to reduce the spread of the virus. The use of hydroalcoholic gel is also possible. However, stocks are running out and prices are soaring.
In this context, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published an article entitled "Formulations of hydroalcoholic products recommended by WHO" in order to make hydroalcoholic gel accessible to all.
The recipe for hydroalcoholic gel
WHO explains how to make your own gel with only 3 ingredients that you can find and buy in pharmacies :
· Ethanol 96% or Isopropanol 99.8%
· 3% hydrogen peroxide (or hydrogen peroxide)
· Glycerol 98% (or glycerin)
Quantities for 1 liter of hydroalcoholic gel solution:

• 96% ethanol: 833.3 ml • 3% hydrogen peroxide: 41.7 ml • 98% glycerol: 14.5 ml |
• Isopropanol 99.8%: 751.5 ml • 3% hydrogen peroxide: 41.7 ml • 98% glycerol: 14.5 ml |
Steps to perform to make your own hydroalcoholic gel:
· Remember to clean the container that will contain the preparation
· Mix ethanol (or isopropanol) with hydrogen peroxide
· Then add the glycerol to the mixture
· Add distilled water (or cooled boiled water) until you reach 1 liter
· Mix everything well then pour the solution into the containers of your choice
· Let the bottles stand for at least 72 hours
There is another very easy possibility to create your own hydroalcoholic gel :
· Mix 2/3 of 99% alcohol (or isopropyl alcohol) and 1/3 of aloe vera gel in a container of your choice
Attention, use this product only to clean your hands.

· It is essential to wash your hands very regularly. You will find the best way to wash your hands on the public health website in Luxembourg .
· Cough or sneeze into a tissue or bend your elbow. Throw the tissue in a bin with a lid.
· Avoid shaking hands or kissing.
· Avoid close contact with sick people (keep a distance of at least 2 meters).
· Stay home if you are sick and don't go to work.
· Avoid touching your face with your hands as much as possible.
