The General Inspectorate of the Police (IGP) is the external control body of the Grand Ducal Police of Luxembourg under the provisions of the law of July 18, 2018, on the General Inspectorate of the Police.
Its general mission is to oversee the functioning of the Police.
The IGP is a service placed under the direct authority of the Minister of Internal Affairs and under the functional authority of the Minister of Justice, the State Prosecutor General, as well as other judicial authorities.
In carrying out their mission, the members of the General Inspectorate of the Police commit to respecting the values stated in the IGP charter (Pdf, 123 KB):
- independence from the Police;
- objectivity in its actions, assessments, and language;
- transparency of its procedures;
- integrity of its personnel.
As an actor in internal security, the IGP aims to consolidate and strengthen citizen trust in the Police by promoting respect for Human Rights and State laws according to demanding ethical and deontological principles, and by emphasizing the quality and efficiency of police work.
