The National Literature Centre (CNL), a state cultural institute established in 1994 and governed by the law of 25 June 2004, operates its resources and activities within the historic setting of the Servais and Becker-Eiffes Houses in Mersch. As a public literary and scientific institute, the CNL is distinguished by its specialized documentary research in the field of Luxembourgish literatures and by a wide-ranging program of meetings and sociocultural events centered on literature, books, and writing.
The Centre offers a public reading room, an exhibition space, several welcoming rooms for regular literary events, a library of more than 40,000 books, and a climate-controlled archive allowing for the long-term preservation of around 450 archival collections and holdings. The CNL also has two furnished studios adjacent to the Becker-Eiffes House. Located next to the Servais House park, these studios can host researchers for study stays, accommodate participants during conferences, and welcome writers for author residencies.
