A tradition spanning over 100 years
The origins of Caves Gales date back to April 20, 1916, when Nicolas Gales, himself the son of a winemaker, laid the foundations of a company that, under the influence of future generations, would become a major wine-producing complex in Bech-Kleinmacher, on the banks of the Moselle.
In the aftermath of the Second World War, his two sons Georges and Jules Gales, along with his youngest daughter Betty Gales, joined him. During this period of economic reconstruction, they found within themselves the strength and determination to continue, like their father, a task requiring both foresight and a willingness to take risks — the hallmark of true builders.
While each generation was shaped by its time and contributed its own solutions and decisions, the fundamental choices remained unchanged.
Indeed, over the generations, there was never any rupture or abrupt succession, but rather the constant presence of two generations working together, combining experience and learning in their
shared commitment to preserving the Gales tradition.
Building on this heritage, Marc Gales, the current director, joined the family business in the early 1980s to continue this tradition and, from 1985 onward, to drive its rapid expansion, notably through a stake in the Caves St Martin in Remich.
In 2002, an important milestone was reached with the inauguration of a new facility dedicated to the production of Luxembourg crémants in Ellange/Gare.
The fourth generation, represented by Isabelle and Georges Gales, has chosen to continue this remarkable journey by joining the family business.
