Continuity in tradition for 100 years
The origins of Caves Gales date back to 20 April 1916, when Nicolas Gales, himself the son of a winegrower, laid the foundations of a business which, under the impetus of future generations, would become a major winegrowing complex in Bech-Kleinmacher, on the banks of the Moselle.
After the Second World War, his two sons Georges and Jules Gales, and his youngest daughter Betty Gales came to support their father. In this period of economic reconstruction, they found in themselves enough strength and character to continue, like their father, a task that required both foresight and a taste for risk, the prerogative of true builders.
While each generation was shaped by its own era and brought its own solutions and decisions, the basic choices remained unchanged.
Indeed, over the generations, there has never been a break, or a sudden succession, but the permanent presence of two generations, combining experience and learning in their unwavering determination to ensure the continuity of the Gales tradition.
Building on this heritage, Marc Gales, the current manager, joined the family business in the early 1980s to continue this tradition and, from 1985 onwards, to expand rapidly by acquiring a stake in Caves St Martin in Remich.
In 2002, a major milestone was reached with the inauguration of a new unit at Ellange/Gare, designed to produce crémants de Luxembourg.
The 4th generation, Isabelle and Georges Gales, have decided to continue this great adventure by joining the family business.
In Ellange, you'll only find the operating and production site for our Caves Gales shop in Remich.
