The „Confédération Générale de la Fonction Publique“ (CGFP) is an umbrella organisation for professional organisations in the public service whose objective is to defend the social, moral, professional and material interests of civil servants, public employees and other contract workers of the State, without distinction of gender. The CGFP operates independently of any political or ideological considerations. In accordance with its principles of independent and neutral trade unionism, the CGFP relentlessly pursues a wide-ranging programme of action aimed not only at constantly improving the professional and social conditions of its members but also at taking a stand on all general policy issues.
Composed of around 60 federations and professional associations, the CGFP has over 34,000 members, making it the only nationally representative trade union in the public service. Through the CGFP, civil servants have an effective trade union instrument which, thanks to its size, unity, power and means of action, is able both to defend their achievements and to ensure progress.
