Graduating in 1992 from the Higher Institute of Architecture Saint-Luc, Jo Lorang began his career as an architect within the GMT engineering office in Brussels and registered with the Order of Architects of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1994. The Jo Lorang architecture office was established in 1999 following nearly five years of independent collaboration with the firm Holweck, Mergen and Associates in Luxembourg-Diekirch. The year 2024 marks a new chapter in the history of our office. Together with Jeff Peters, a long-time collaborator, he has been appointed co-founding partner of a new firm now known as ODC Architecture. ODC first and foremost stands for “Open Design Collectif.” Sculpture, painting, and music have always been part of the architectural universe. During the 19th and 20th centuries, photography, cinema, furniture design, and literature emerged and, together with architecture, contributed to expressing the modern spirit of the 20th century. Collaboration with other artists allows us to enrich the rather rational language of architecture by integrating the irrational and existential dimensions of art. ODC is also inspired by the Odyssey, by the idea of nostos—the journey home. It draws from the inexhaustible inspiration of a major literary work that has shaped European culture for over 2,500 years. Finally, ODC represents both a new beginning and the continuation of a journey that began more than 30 years ago with the Jo Lorang architecture office.
