09 APRIL 2019 | PROPOSED BY OUR PARTNER BÂLOISE ASSURANCES LUXEMBOURG
When you buy a house, you rarely know if it is in a flood zone. If you have a doubt, make arrangements because you can quickly lose everything.
Twice in recent years, in July 2016 and in June 2018, Luxembourg experienced very heavy rainfall which resulted in dramatic floods all over the country, but especially in areas near watercourses. or in cuvettes exposed to the risk of massive runoff. The Ernz Valley and the Moselle Valley have been hit hard several times, and climate change on the planet makes it even more likely that this type of natural disaster will occur in the future.
Luxembourg insurance companies, faced with the demands of clients who did not have adequate protection, have therefore decided to offer since a new additional guarantee "Flood" to better cover the losses caused in this type of climate event.
This guarantee covers flooding in the broad sense , ie the backflow of public sewers, the overflowing of rivers following atmospheric precipitation, the runoff of water resulting from the lack of soil absorption. as well as landslides and subsidence due to rainfall.
As this insurance is optional , not all Luxembourg residents have an interest in purchasing it. Therefore, how do you determine if you live in a flood zone, what is the level of ranking in relation to the flood risk and if you must take out the required additional guarantee?
