Founded 30 years ago (RBS – Center fir Altersfroen) at the initiative of the Ministry of Family Affairs, our association continues to maintain close ties with this important partner. The name change to GERO – Kompetenzzenter fir den Alter (Gerontological Competence Centre) highlights our commitment to further investing in innovative approaches that positively influence the lives of older people in Luxembourg.
GERO’s events, projects, and publications are aimed at older adults as well as anyone interested in the topic of successful ageing, whether on a personal or professional level. Our initiatives follow an innovative, participative, progressive, and diverse approach. The goal is to remain at the forefront of knowledge on ageing – also thanks to our international cooperation partners. We aim to make this knowledge understandable and accessible to the widest possible audience.
GERO is derived from gerontology, the science of ageing. Ageing in all its facets is at the heart of GERO’s three main areas: geroAKTIV, geroPRO, and geroRESEARCH. Projects related to ageing are gaining importance and are carried out by our multidisciplinary team together with professional partners and volunteer seniors. Acceptance and tolerance are our guiding principles, as well as practical relevance and a scientifically grounded approach.
