Amiperas (the Amicale des Personnes Retraitées, Âgées et Solitaires) was founded in 1963 by Jean-Pierre Thoma.
The aims of this association are to:
- bring together people who are retired, elderly, or living alone;
- advise, support, and assist its members on social and cultural levels;
- defend the interests of elderly people and maintain ongoing dialogue with all public and private institutions.
The association is represented, among others, in the following organizations:
- Conseil supérieur des Personnes âgées (Senior Citizens’ Council)
- Omega 90 asbl
- Association luxembourgeoise de gérontologie/gériatrie (ALGG)
- Conseil supérieur du Bénévolat (Higher Council for Volunteering)
- Entente des Gestionnaires des Centres d’Accueil
- ULESS
- Aktioun Öffentlechen Transport
- EURAG (European Federation of Older Persons)
- Presse périodique (periodical press).
Amiperas has a national secretariat and is organized into local sections, which offer a wide range of activities to their members.
